urbanholidays.

Trees are illuminated with speckled blue lights

That blur into Broadway through long New York nights

And the moon sleeps down low beneath a patchwork black sky

Her boots click on the pavement when she whispers “goodbye”

Carols and car horns, Christmas candy canes

She sits on park benches and watches the trains

Whistling on railroads, they pass her like thunder

The wind in her hair and her heart held with wonder

Lit cars running forward they pass her too fast

She breathes slowly through tears like each moment’s her last.

autumn.

hi everyone! i just wanted to check in during a process of organization and re-vamping of urbanseason, and to thank you guys for your continuous support. this summer, urbanseason got over 5,000 views, and i received lots of feedback via email and twitter (@allisonflom). that is wild!

i created some new pages, to keep everything accessible and straight forward, plus today i added the “poetry collection” tab where i featured a few of my favorite works to share with you guys! let me know what you think :)

thank you again for letting me share my art with you. as the autumn begins, keep a fire in your heart to keep you warm and keep your passion alive. if you let yourself be defined by another person, you are defeated; whether you’re surrounded by city lights or shooting stars tonight, don’t ever let your spirit go away.

lots of love,

Allison

sad news & an opportunity.

my grandpa taught me everything from how to tell a good joke, to how to make a great chocolate cake, to how to embrace life to the fullest. he came to every terrible play that i was in, and supported every single hobby i’ve ever had from rockclimbing to knitting. but my grandpa didn’t get the chance to see my photographs. he was diagnosed with cancer last year, and he died today, on his 64th birthday.

when i was little, i asked why he didn’t like milk. he looked me in the eye and said in his booming voice, “kiddo, what’s the point of milk when you can have whipped cream?” at that moment, i just thought he really liked junk food. but what he really meant was, never settle. never let anyone stop you from being extraordinary. find something to love about everything you do. now i understand.

so here’s the opportunity: please share my photos with your friends. just hit the white tab below the header that says “photo gallery” to see them! for every person who views my slideshow this weekend, a donation will be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of my grandpa, who never let me forget that who i am is absolutely good enough.

i miss you already, grandpa. thanks for the inspiration.
